Briggs, Forte say they'll play this week

Bears linebacker Lance Briggs and running back Matt Forte both say they will play this week against the Seahawks. Right now, it appears all but three players will be healthy come Sunday.

Last Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings knocked out five Chicago Bears players. Yesterday, six Bears didn't practice: WR Alshon Jeffery (knee), WR Devin Hester (concussion), LB Lance Briggs (ankle), CB Charles Tillman (ankle), G Chris Spencer (knee) and TE Kellen Davis (knee). RB Matt Forte practiced but was limited.

The Bears got better news today. Jeffery will be out 1-3 more weeks recovering from his knee scope and Hester is going to be out "a while" according to Lovie Smith. Spencer also sat out today and is expected to miss at least this week. Brian Urlacher did not practice but only because Thursday is his regular day off.

Yet Briggs, Tillman, Davis and Forte all participated this afternoon, albeit on a limited basis.

"Hester is getting better. [It will] be a while still," said Smith. "Chris Spencer of course is getting better, also. We held out Brian Urlacher. He should be good to go tomorrow. And Alshon Jeffery of course is out.

"The rest of the guys were able to at least do something on a limited basis. I'm talking about Lance, Kellen, Matt and Charles Tillman. So they made a lot of progress. Hopefully, they'll continue to do that. Of course, we'll need everyone."

Briggs said this afternoon that he expects to active on Sunday.

"I feel good. I'm getting better every day. Modern medicine," said Briggs.

Briggs has only missed four games in his 10-year career.

"In my short career, I guess I've only missed a couple of games. I don't plan on missing this week either."

Forte also said he'll be active against the Seahawks.

"I do [expect to play]," said Forte. "I don't know how bad it is, but it hurt. I've been doing a lot of different stuff, seeing the chiropractor, working on it, sleeping in the hyperbaric chamber. That seems to work pretty well. I just continue to do what I did last time." The only players I foresee sitting out this week are Hester, Spencer and Jeffery. I expect Briggs, Forte, Tillman and Davis all to play.

UPDATE: The Bears have officially ruled Hester and Spencer out for this weekend's contest.
