Redskins Sign Corner, Receiver
Posted Jun 29, 2005

The Redskins added two players whose chances of making the team will hinge on, you guessed, their special teams play

The Redskins signed cornerback Eric Joyce and claimed receiver Jamin Elliott off waivers today. They released receiver Pedro Holiday and earned an NFL Europe roster exemption for Joyce and for injured corner James Bethea.

Joyce is primarily a special teams player, having played sparingly with the New York Jets. The Bears released him before the 2003 season and he was cut by Arizona before last season. He spent a week on Miami's practice squad before getting released.

Elliott, a former sixth-round pick of Chicago in 2002, has spent time with Chicago and New England, but is very inexperienced. He played for Cologne in NFL Europe this spring. Elliott made the Bears' roster as a rookie before being moved to the practice squad after the fourth game. He returned to the active roster after the 11th game. He earned a Super Bowl ring with New England in 2003, though he appeared in only one game on special teams.
