Some Surprises in Redskins' Cuts

McCune's physique didn't land him a roster spot
Posted Sep 3, 2005

The Redskins cut another draft pick as well as a veteran receiver and punter today, giving the punting job to rookie Andy Groom.

Washington already had cut draft pick Jared Newberry and today waived another linebacker Robert McCune. It's likely he could be placed on the practice squad. Also, the Redskins cut defensive end Ron Warner, who made a splash last season.

Today's cuts also mean that rookie undrafted rookie Zak Keasey made the team as a backup linebacker and special teamer. But veteran Kevin Dyson was cut -- and Antonio Brown made it despite struggling at wideout. He also wasn't overly impressive as a returner, but his speed makes him intriguing.

Here's the list of cuts:

Jon Alston OL South Carolina
Brandon Barnes LB Missouri
Rufus Brown DB Florida State
Kevin Dyson WR Utah
Jamin Elliott WR Delaware
Jimmy Farris WR Montana
Tyler Lenda OL Penn State
Robert Johnson TE Auburn
Aki Jones DL Fordham
Eric Joyce DB Tennessee State
Robert McCune LB Louisville
Chris Mohr P Alabama
Rich Parson WR Maryland
Siddeeq Shabazz DB New Mexico State
Ron Warner DE Kansas
Garnell Wilds DB Virginia Tech
Mark Wilson OL California
