Redskins Park Report: Noble Will Miss a Month

Brandon Noble won't be clelebrating for a while

Redskins Park, Ashburn, VA 09.14.05--Brandon Noble will miss more than a month after getting his knee scoped and a denial of Ramsey's trade request straight from the horse's mouth.

. . . Quarterback Patrick Ramsey said he did not request a trade in his meeting with Joe Gibbs Monday, when the coach told him he was being replaced.

‘'I'm not leading anybody to believe anything,'' Ramsey said. ‘'I haven't specifically told coach that I want a trade. I'm a Redskin right now. I'm going to concentrate on Dallas.''

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Monday that Ramsey had requested a trade. But several sources, including two people close to Ramsey, have denied this report.

But there's little doubt what will happen in the offseason: the Redskins will try to unload Ramsey. League sources said they probably won't get better than a sixth or a seventh-round draft choice.

. . . Defensive tackle Brandon Noble's season is in jeopardy, which makes one wonder about his career, too. Noble underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage on his left knee in Charlotte today and could miss at least four weeks. However, trainer Bubba Tyer said there's an underlying bone bruise and that could lengthen his recovery period.

It's the third time in the past two years that Noble has had knee surgery. He tore three ligaments in the same knee two years ago and underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in the offseason. That led to a staph infection.

. . . James Thrash and Santana Moss will return punts, though Thrash will be the primary returner. The Redskins would like to use Moss more, but his size (5-foot-10, 190 pounds -- a rather generous listing) causes the Redskins worry.

''Obviously you want to use him,'' Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said. ''That's a heavy load. Last week we had trouble in the first half because he had cramps and needed an IV at halftime. It's how much can he take and be able to do.''

. . . There's growing tension between the Washington Post and the team. First, the team sent out a rather snide press release Monday, correcting an item in the Post about when they first flashed baseball scores at FedEx. Then the team got upset with the paper when one of its reporters was asked by his editor to stake out Ramsey's house Tuesday.

. . . Injury update: PK John Hall (quad), LB Chris Clemons (hamstring), S Ryan Clark (knee) and RT Jon Jansen (thumb) all are listed as questionable. All but Hall practiced and are expected to play. Kicker Nick Novak said he's been told he'll kick Monday, though if Hall is OK then he'll handle the job.

. . . For Dallas: LB Kevin Burnett (knee) is questionable.
