Redskins safety Sean Taylor will be fined $17,000 for spitting on Tampa Bay
running back Michael Pittman during Saturday’s playoff game, FoxSports.com is reporting.
The controversial incident, which happened in the third
quarter with the Redskins leading the Bucs by what was eventually the final
score of 17-10, also cost the Redskins the services of Taylor for the game as
he was ejected from the game.
There was some speculation that Taylor might get suspended
for the incident, either next week as the Redskins play in Seattle or at the
start of next season, but it appears that such a penalty was never seriously
considered.
The price of expectorating has gone up. In 1997, Denver’s Bill
Romanowski spit in the face of San Francisco receiver J. J. Stokes and was
fined a mere $7,500.
