After getting put in the prime time Monday night spotlight
in the season opener, WarpathInsiders.com has learned that the Washington Redskins will play the
Cincinnati Bengals in a prime time preseason game that will be televised nationally on
NBC.
Both teams returned to the NFL playoffs last year after
spending many seasons on the outside looking in. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis,
who was the Redskins defensive coordinator in 2002 before taking the head job
in Cincinnati, got the Bengals into the postseason for the first time since
1990.
The Bengals are likely to be without Carson Palmer, their
quarterback who blossomed into stardom in 2005 only to suffer a severe knee
injury in the Bengals’ playoff game. In fact, one of the interesting aspects of
this game will be how they sort out who will fill in for Palmer as the starter
until his rehab is complete.
For their part, the Redskins will be trying to work their
two new receivers, Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El, into their offense in
addition to giving an extended look to Jason Campbell to see if the second-year
quarterback is ready for regular season action should Mark Brunell falter.
The entire preseason schedule should be announced in the
coming days.
