Although Mark Brunell’s injury is not expected to be a major impediment in the team’s offseason workouts, it will likely force him to miss the upcoming minicamp. Backups Todd Collins and Jason Campbell will get the reps there if Brunell can’t make it.

Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell suffered a broken finger today during offseason workouts.

The injury was described as a small fracture to the index finger on his left hand, which is his throwing hand. It will prevent him from fully participating in workouts for 2-3 weeks. Washington’s minicamp is scheduled to begin two weeks from today. After the minicamp, the team has no organized activities until training camp begins in late July.

Although Brunell is a 13-year veteran and missing the time is not a great worry, he and the other quarterbacks on the team have been learning the revised offense being installed by new offensive guru Al Saunders.

The injury means that the bulk of the work for the remainder of the offseason will go to second-year quarterback Jason Campbell and veteran Todd Collins.
