Running back Clinton Portis suffered a partially dislocated shoulder and will miss the rest of the
preseason, coach Joe Gibbs said Monday. His status for the Sept. 11 season
opener is uncertain, though Gibbs said he ''hopes'' Portis will be ready for
that game.
Portis hurt his
shoulder making a crunching tackle on a first-quarter interception in
Washington's 19-3 loss at Cincinnati Sunday.
Ladell Betts
obviously would replace Portis. Betts did not play against the Bengals because
of a hamstring injury, but is expected to return against the Jets on Saturday.
...Linebacker Chris Clemons said he might miss four to six weeks with a sprained MCL in his left
knee.
...Running back
Kerry Carter suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Bengals. The
Redskins liked Carter and had wanted to see much more of him in the preseason.
