The Redskins released seventh-round draft choice, Kevin Simon, and oft-injured
tight end Robert Johnson among their 12 cuts today. And they released punter
David Lonie, handing the job to Derrick Frost -- for now.
|
Simon has been hurt most of training camp. Johnson has a sprained ankle and a
history of injuries. Though big and apparently talented, he struggled with
blocking because of poor leverage.
They also released offensive lineman Jon Alston, quarterback Casey Bramlet,
defensive back Antuan Edwards, offensive lineman Jim Jones, kicker Tyler Jones,
defensive lineman Chris Mineo, tight end Calen Powell, defensive end Karon Riley
and defensive back Aric Williams.
The Redskins now have 76 players on their roster, with an exemption for
Philippe Gardent, who will stay on the practice squad all season on an exchange with NFL Europe.
The final round of cuts will be made Saturday.
