Redskins safety Pierson Prioleau tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season.
Prioleau will undergo surgery within the next two to three weeks, once the swelling subsides. He was hurt on the opening kickoff when his foot got stuck as he tried to cut.
His absence means the Redskins have a hole in their safety depth. Vernon Fox was signed two weeks ago, more for his special teams prowess than anything else, and Reed Doughty is a rookie who was inactive in Monday's loss to Minnesota are the team's backups at the position.
The Redskins will continue looking for safety help.
...Washington signed tight end Todd Yoder and cut running back Nehemiah Broughton today. Broughton is eligible for the practice squad. Fullback Manuel White, who is on the practice squad, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee after hurting it in practice Saturday.
...Corner Shawn Springs (abdomen) said he's ''nowhere near'' where he wants to be in order to play. He's not ruling himself out for the Dallas game, but did tell reporters that when he originally had the surgery on Aug. 15, it was believed he would likely miss the first two games. However, there's no official word on his status and coach Joe Gibbs remains hopeful Springs will be able to play Sunday night against Dallas.
