The Redskins saved themselves some money, and freed themselves of a yearly injury drama surrounding John Hall. They cut the oft-injured kicker today, saving $1.5 million against the salary cap this season.

Hall had become a favorite of coach Joe Gibbs, who staunchly defended the kicker through his numerous injuries. In the past three years, Hall missed 23 games because of injuries. He ended this past season on injured reserve and his fate was essentially sealed when Shaun Suisham had a strong eight games.

Suisham showed a solid leg on kickoffs and also made nine of 11 field goals, usually driving the ball straight down the middle.

In four years with Washington, Hall made made 78 percent of his field goals.
