Marshall Released

Marshall Released

Lemar Marshall started the past three seasons, opened training camp as a backup and now is unemployed.

In a surprising move, the Redskins released the veteran and signed another veteran, Randall Godfrey.

Marshall had started in the middle the previous two seasons and on the weak side in 2004. He struggled in the middle last season, prompting Washington to sign London Fletcher. But he was considered a versatile backup and was expected to help fill the gap with Marcus Washington out. However, Marshall did not play well against the Steelers.

Godfrey played for defensive boss Gregg Williams for one season in Tennessee. He started his career with Dallas as a second-round pick in 1996. He played with Seattle for one year and San Diego for the past three years, starting 13 games including the playoff loss to New England last season.

Washington also signed receiver Jerel Myers, who spent the past two years in the Arena League. He played for Buffalo in 2003-04; Williams was there in '03.
