Ashburn, VA – The Washington Redskins have announced that they have signed wide receiver Reche Caldwell. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Caldwell, 6-0, 210 lbs., spent last season with the New England Patriots and was released during 2007 training camp. He was the Patriots leading receiver in 2006 with 61 receptions for 760 yards and four touchdowns. In the three playoff contest last season, Caldwell recorded 16 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown.
Caldwell was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round (48th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. He spent the 2002-2005 season with the Chargers. For his career, he has played in 63 games with 28 starts, tallying 137 receptions for 1,710 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 kick returns for 319 yards.
Caldwell attended the University of Florida where he was a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation's top receiver, after his senior campaign. He became only the ninth player in school history to gain more than 1,000 yards receiving. Caldwell is a native of Tampa, Florida.
The Redskins also announced that they have placed OL Jon Jansen on injured reserve and waived running back Marcus Mason. In addition, the Washington Redskins announced that they have added offensive lineman Justin Geisinger to the practice squad and released wide receiver Burl Toler and linebacker Anthony Trucks from the practice squad.
