However, the Redskins won't decide his future on the roster until after the surgery. If the rehab time is only two months, they could keep him on the roster to have him around for the final playoff push.
But they will likely work out two or three free agent linemen Wednesday to provide more depth along the line. With six receivers and six safeties, it won't be hard to find a spot from where they could cut.
Thomas suffered at least a partial tear of his triceps on the penultimate play of the first quarter. Jason Fabini replaced him for the rest of the game. He'll continue to start, Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said Monday.
Fabini had never played right guard in a game until Monday. He first started playing there in training camp.
"It's something I'm getting comfortable with," Fabini said. "[But] it's a big blow when you lose Jon and Randy. Randy is the heart and soul of the team, an emotional guy. … But you have to go one and whoever is in there, we have big shoes to fill and we have to perform."
