Redskins running back Clinton Portis didn’t post huge numbers. He just
had a lot of them. And it got the notice of the NFL, which named him as
the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Portis rushed for 76 yards, caught passes for 48 more and threw a
touchdown pass against Minnesota.
Portis wasn’t wowed by his honor, but he did say he feels fresher,
which is helping fuel the Redskins late postseason run. It helps, too,
that Washington’s offense is more balanced with quarterback Todd Collins.
But Portis has done well to start all 16 games, considering how much
time he missed in the spring and summer with knee problems.
"He’s one of those backs you can never give up on," Redskins
receiver Santana Moss said. "Late in the year when teams are trying to
stop different things, or they’re beat up, that’s when he feels like he
can take advantage of it."
