Durant Brooks P |
Derrick Frost P |
|
No
question that Brooks won round one in
the punting duel. His
kicking in the HOF
game showed he had great allround skills pinning the Colts inside the
20 twice,
and then booming off a 54 yarder that had height and distance,. While Frost was good at
getting the three short
punts down inside the 20 against the Bills, his sole longer punt was
hard and
low, giving the coverage unit no time to get down the field and
resulted in a
long return that was almost broken for a TD.

|
Chris Wilson DE |
Rob Jackson DE |
|
Neither
has made much of a move over the
first two games or weks of TC. Wilson
still hold the job
by default at this point due only to the potential he showed last year
recording
5 sacks in 17 games as a pass rush specialist.

|
Andrew Crummey G/C |
Todd Wade OT |
|
The
second string OL has performed really
well so far in preseason and a major factor in that has been Andrew
Crummey
playing at C. The
team lacks a backup C
and this rookie (a converted G) looks to have the talent to develop
into
Rabach’s successor. Given
that Heyer and
Rinehart are capable of playing both OT spots, Fabini’s good
form on Saturday
night against the Bills and that Crummey is capable of playing G as
well as C,
makes Todd Wade the odd man out in the OL competition.
|
|
Vernon Fox S |
Kareem Moore |
|
The
release of Stuart Schweigert has really
opened up the competition at the two spots behind Landry and Doughty. Chris Horton’s
performace in the HOF game has
virtually
ensure he’s got one foot in the door for one of those backup
roles, The final
spot is between the veteran special
teams performer in Vernon Fox and the young and talented, but injured
rookie,
Kareem Moore. Moore
finally got onto the field Saturday night, but Fox holds this job by
default
for now until Moore
can provide some competition on the field in the nest couple of games.

|
Marcus Mason RB |
Billy McMullen WR/Anthony Mix WR |
|
This
battle is for the last offensive spot
on the roster. Will
Zorn carry 4 RB’s or
6 WR’s? Mason
and McMullen have done all
that could be asked of them over the first two weeks, while Mix has
been nagged
by injury and has played a limited role in the first two games. Mason has to be in the box
seat right now
after two excellent performances in the two preseason games so far
(despite the
KOR fumble). Mason
has shown good vision
and a burst of speed through the hole, catches passes and .blocks to
give him
the definite edge here going into week 3 of the preseason.
