Redskins Head Coach Jim Zorn
On if he is optimistic about Jason Taylor’s
availability for the season opener:
“I do not know yet. I have every reason to
believe. My cup is half full. It’s only half full because there is a
chance they he may miss the first one. My statement holds true, its
better that he misses the first one than the next six because we try
to push him back. We are going to wait to see what our medical group
has to say and some of it will be how he feels and how he pushes
himself.”
On the punting competition going into the last
preseason game:
“They are going to both punt in the game. That’s
how we are going to do it. It’s going down to the nitty-gritty”
On if the players did more individual work
than usually at practice today:
“No, we worked hard and worked through all the
things that we did. I think we worked through some of the things we
were trying to correct.”
On the prospect of Malcolm Kelly playing in
Thursday’s preseason game:
“If Malcolm can get up to speed he definitely is going to be in the
game. How much is he going to be in the game will depend really
on tomorrow’s practice."
Redskins Defensive Coordinator Greg
Blache
On what the reaction was to Carolina Panthers
game:
“I thought we played poorly. It was ugly. We
did not do things the way we like to do. We played against a good
football team that exposed some of our weaknesses and we have to work
to improve those things.”
On if Carolina Panthers game was a poor team
performance or individual:
“We had some individual breakdowns. I went
through all the bad plays and it was a different guy every time. One
thing about the great running backs, they are like water they always
find the hole in the bucket. You put a hole in your front the good
backs are going to find it. Those two backs are excellent backs and
they found the hole in the bucket each time and they exploited us and
we missed some tackles on the back end. It was a good lesson for us
if we learned from it if we don’t it’s just a bad experience that goes
on and we do not reap any benefits from it.”
Redskins Tackle Jon Jansen
On his foot injury:
“I can pretty much tell now when it’s something
major or when it’s something small, and this is something small. I’m
happy it happened when it did, so I have time to get ready for the New
York [Giants] game. Somebody just fell on me and sprained my foot a
little bit. It’s nothing major. I had a little bit of bruising, but
it’s responded well to treatment. I have no doubt that in a couple of
days I’ll be fine.”
On last week’s game against the Carolina
Panthers:
“It was very disappointing. There’s no hiding
that fact. I’m disappointed in myself and everything we did, but the
great thing about it is that luckily we’ve got a quick turnaround. We
can go back out there on Thursday and try and put it behind us and get
ready for the regular season.”
On his status for the upcoming game:
“I haven’t been told that whether I will [play]
or not. I would love to get back out there and put it behind me. My
focus is on New York.”
Redskins Tackle Chris Samuels
On the upcoming game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars:
“It will be good to go back out there because it
will give us a chance to wash it [last week’s loss] out of our memory.
It was a tough game, so hopefully we can go out there and play well.”
On practice this week:
“I work hard everyday out there on the field, so
I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing. It was just a bad
game that we had. We’re going to look at the film after practice
later, learn from it and then just move on.”
Redskins Quarterback Jason Campbell
On playing against Jacksonville defensive
coordinator Gregg Williams:
“We all know him, we know he’s coming back to
town. This is a big moment for him and a big moment for this team.
We’ve still have to go out there, pay attention to details and what we
need to do. Of course we’re going to go out there and get the game
started off. We don’t want to finish it [the pre-season] with a bad
taste in our mouth, so we’re going to go out there and bounce back.”
On what they need to improve on:
“We just need to play with more of an attitude.
We need to be more aggressive. Carolina came out and they definitely
played at a higher level than we did, and I think that was the reason
they were more successful than us. They came out with intensity and we
never matched it. We didn’t get into a rhythm. We have to learn from
this. It definitely left a bad taste in our mouths, but it doesn’t
define our pre-season or our team. It was one bad game that we had and
now we understand what we need to do to correct it.”
On the loss to the Carolina Panthers:
“We just got beat. We lost some battles. We need
to bounce back and get ourselves focused. It was a humbling experience
for all of us and that’s how you need to look at it. It makes you work
extra hard.”
Redskins Defensive End Jason Taylor
On his knee injury:
“It’s a physical game and things happen. You
can’t play the game afraid of getting hurt. Pre-season or not, you go
out and try to play hard. Things happen, you get rolled up and you
just hope it’s not a big deal. It took a little longer than I would
have hoped [to get off the field]. It could have been worse though, so
I’m very fortunate. I watched the play again, and in a pile like that
and as ugly as it looked, it could have been a lot worse.”
On how he’s feeling:
“I have been a quick healer in the past. People
think I’m old, but I’m not that old yet so hopefully those healing
cells are still in there. I feel alright. I couldn’t run or do
anything today. If we were playing tomorrow, I couldn’t do it, but we
have some time. I’m going to put my best foot forward with rehab, and
we’ll see where we are next week.”
On when to expect him back out on the field:
“In a perfect world, I’d like to play Thursday
but it doesn’t count, so I won’t be there Thursday for sure. After
that, it’s live games and I’m not one for missing games. I’m still in
a big brace because it (my knee) won’t support itself yet but we have
some time. I think the next few days will tell a lot.”
On finding out the severity of the injury:
“Yeah, of course I was relieved [that the injury
wasn’t serious]. Then you want to figure out what it is and what we
need to do to correct it. They said at the field that everything
seemed stable and that it wasn’t anything big, but you never know
until you get the MRI and the MRI was promising. There were some
things in there, but nothing bad. I’m happy to be able to come back
and play. We’ll just have to wait and see at what point that will be.”
On what a consecutive game-streak means to
him:
“It’s something you take pride in because you
don’t miss games. I’ve been beat up before during the seasons with
nicks and bruises that’s part of the game. Being able to play through
those things and always show up on Sunday is something I do take pride
in, but some things are out of your control. There are a lot of guys
in here that would like to never miss a game, but unfortunately for
them they’re not always able to do that. We’ll see [what happens]. I
don’t want to miss one (a game) now, but some things are out of our
control. I want to be back, but I have to be smart.”
On well-wishes from his team:
“We go through a lot as athletes together on a
team. This is the ultimate team game. You spend so much time together
and you do create that camaraderie and that brotherhood. When anybody
gets hurt, you feel bad for him. Whether it’s a knee or something
small, you want everyone to be well. I do appreciate that, even though
I’ve only been here a month, they’ve welcomed me into the group and
that they look at me as someone they care about. It means a lot to
me.”
