Ten years later, Samuels has been a staple on the Redskins' offense line. In Samuels' nine seasons, he reached the Pro Bowl six times including four straight from 2005 to 2008.
Also, in his nine seasons, he had started all sixteen games in six of those seasons as well as the first five games of the 2009 season. Over all, he has been a fairly durable player at a position where it is hard to be durable.
However, that would all change against the Panthers when Samuels suffered a stinger in his neck. It has been reported that Samuels has a condition called Stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spine. He has been wearing extra padding behind his head during games due to this condition.
After visiting with a specialist in Los Angeles, Samuels has decided that it could just be too risky to continue playing football.
He is set to sit out the season and make a decision in December or January. If he does retire, he will be missed and he will be hard for the Redskins to replace.
