The Redskins today hired long time College and NFL Defensive Line Coach Jacob Burney to coach their Defensive Line.

Jacob Burney's football career began at Tennessee-Chattanooga where he was a four year starter. He then went undraftd in the NFL and only got a tryout with the Detroit Lions.

He then turned to coaching in the college ranks where he coached for for the University of Mexico, University of Tulsa, Mississippi State University, University of Wisconsin, UCLA, and University of Tennessee for a combined 11 years.

In 1994 he joined the Cleveland Browns to become their defensive line coach under then Head Coach Bill Belichick. He stayed with the Browns/Ravens until 1998.

In 1999 he joined the Carolina Panthers to be their defensive line coach under Head Coach George Seifert. In 2001, Burney coaxed a breakout season from third-year defensive end Mike Rucker, who posted a career-high and team-leading nine sacks. when George Seifert left Carolina, so did Burney.

In 2002, he was hired to coach the Denver Broncos' Defensive Line by then head coach Mike Shanahan. He had many coaching accolades in Denver including record breaking Defensive Lines and individual players.

Overall, this is a good hire by the Redskins and Mike Shanahan.
