| Biography: |
| Antonio Pierce UFA Redskins - He could have been one of the best stories on the team in 2004. Pierce re-signed last year as a restricted free agent and spurned an offer from Minnesota. He was expected to back up new starting middle linebacker Micheal Barrow but he never played in a game due to recurring knee problems. Pierce wound up starting all 16 games and finished with a ton of tackles. In fact, he was one of the main reasons why their defense was so good against the run. The team wants to re-sign him and has exchanged contract proposals with his representatives but Pierce could receive a decent amount of interest in free agency if he’s not re-signed before hand.
Pro Highlights:
. Made his first career start vs. KC (9/30/01) and made a single-game high eight tackles.
. Made his first career sack at New Orleans (12/30/01).
. Picked off quarterback Jake Plummer for his first career interception vs. Arizona (1/6/02)
Pierce was signed as an undrafted free agent and made an immediate impression on coaches. He played in all 16 games and started eight. He played in a reserve role in the first two games of the season and recorded five tackles at Green Bay (9/24).
