Johnson was a three-year starter at LB for Boise State, making 266 tackles. He led the Broncos in tackles each season and made 105 as a senior, when he was named First-Team All-Big West. He had 76 tackles as a junior (54 solo) and was Second-Team All-Conference, and 85 as a sophomore. As a freshman, Johnson played FB and TE, catching 15 passes for 271 yards (18.1 avg.) with three TDs.
