2006: Smoot played in 14 games, with 11 starts, and logged 61 tackles (57 solo) and one interception. He returned the interception 47 yards for a touchdown.
2005: Smoot signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent and in his first season in Minnesota, he played in 11 games with eight starts. He finished with 41 tackles (37 solo) and two interceptions.
2004: Smoot had another strong season, leading the team with 12 pass breakups and earning a spot as a second alternate to the Pro Bowl. He logged 57 tackles (45 solo) and three interceptions, third-most on the team. He started 15 games.
2003: Smoot started 13 games and played in 15, missing one game because of a bruised sternum. He finished the season seventh on the squad in tackles with 58 (47 solo) and also had four interceptions for 35 return yards.
2002: Smoot started all 16 games for the Redskins at cornerback and also played a strong role on special teams coverage. He posted 61 tackles (46 solo), four interceptions for 12 return yards, 24 passes defensed and one forced fumble.
2001: Smoot quickly showed the Redskins coaching staff he was ready for the NFL with a strong pre-season in 2001, earning a starting position at right cornerback, across from Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey. He started 13 of 14 games he played and finished the season first on the team with five interceptions and second in pass deflections (12).
College: As a senior at Mississippi State, Smoot was one of the nation's most dominant defensive backs. He played right CB, and QBs didn't throw much in his direction. He earned multiple honors after finishing with a team-high five INTs, 55 tackles (42 solo), including two for losses (-3 yards), and a school single-season-record 19 pass-breakups. |
